Interesting article which includes a link to Arthur Quiller-Couch’s 1916 text, On The Art Of Writing, where he gave the advice to ‘Murder your darlings.’ This was later misquoted by William Faulkner and more recently used by Stephen King in his part autobiography, part writing guide: On Writing.

But the original was ‘murder your darlings’ by Arthur Quiller-Couch.
